As we drove along the rode, the storm clouds gathered and the winds began to blow. We stopped so the Lisonbees could put a tarp over their stuff, and the wind was blowing so hard it rocked the truck. Then the rain began to really pour from the sky. Suddenly we heard something hit the truck, and a few minutes later something hit it again. And then the hailstones started coming in earnest. They were huge! I've never seen such huge hailstones. They just pelted us. It felt a little like armageddon.
Ethan didn't like all the noise from the hailstones, and he hid behind his hands for quite a long time.
Well, once we made it through the storm, we thought we were in the clear. We drove for a ways, but then up ahead on the top of the hill we could see a semi stopped. There was a flash flood! The pictures don't do it full justice. It went over the road and created a river just as big as this on the other side of the road.
It was pretty crazy! Well, eventually we made it through. We talked to another semi driver who was coming the other way and asked him if it got any better up ahead. He said no, that he came through three worse than this one. At one point, he said, the water was coming up over his hood!
Luckily, by the time we got that far, the water was pretty much all gone, and there wasn't even very much debris on the road. Just patches of hailstones. It sure made for an interesting drive!
