This is our entryway. Remember the silo looking tower from the outside? Well, this is what it looks like on the other side of the wall.
Moving farther into the house, you come into the living room.
And if you turn around, you'll see the gas heater (which will probably be replaced by a wood-burning stove one day) and the dining area. The door leads out to the sun porch.
Or as we sometimes call it, the mud room. I was very excited about this. South facing windows, baby!
Coming back through the door, we enter the kitchen. I was also excited to try some open shelving.
We'll move back so you can see the whole room.
And a little bit of a closer view. I really wish we had a better "before" picture of the sink. The was mold growing under that gray thing on the divider (why on earth did they have it there?), and there were all kinds of scuffs and yellow stains. But it cleaned up nicely after a lot of elbow grease.
The room behind the kitchen has this lovely yellow wall and poorly put up mural. We're using it as a storage room for the time being. Oh, and you see the cables? They were everywhere in the house. These people must have really liked their tv. I suppose some of them could have been for internet. . .
And here's the room next to the last one. There are ceiling fans everywhere because there isn't central cooling. Or heating, for that matter.
Across the hall you'll find the downstairs bathroom.
And to the right of that is the laundry room. That floor was really fun to clean.
That's it for the lower level. Let's head up the stairs.
On the left wall is a huge shelf.
And at the top of the stairs is a round nook—the top half of the tower. It's going to be an awesome reading spot someday.
Turn around and you can see the loft.
You can see the bump-out with track lighting on our way to the master bedroom.
There's another bump-out in the master.
And a double closet on the other side of the room. Next we'll go through the door on the right to the master bath.
The picture frame and the full-length mirror both swing out on hinges. That was a fun discovery. :)
Pretty cool, eh? Hidden storage. I was super excited about the mirror swinging out because it will make cutting my hair so much easier!
Here's a better look at the vanity. It's not in the best condition, but it's fixable.
Opposite the vanity sits the tub.
Leaving the master, we'll go back into the loft.
And take a look at some storage on our way through to the other rooms.
These two don't technically qualify as bedrooms because they don't have closets, but this one will work very well as a nursery.
And continuing through to the right, you'll find the (probable) craft room. For now we're using it as Ethan's room until we can fix up the green room.
And that's it, folks! You made it through the grundle of pictures. :) I must add, though, that the pictures don't really do it justice. It has really a rather cool atmosphere. And at the same time, some things were more gross than the pictures portray. We've made some changes for the better already, but it is most definitely a work in progress. It probably will be for a long time.
Definitely a character filled house, both on the outside and inside. Happy for you guys!
ReplyDeleteYippee for pictures! Your house looks great. I love the yard and all the space for you and your brood. :) And the inside has some great architecture that you just don't see anymore. I love it!
ReplyDeleteMuch character indeed! I thin kit will be a great home for your family and it is plenty big enough inside and out! How did they heat the home if there is no heating (other than the gas stove)?
ReplyDeleteThere are electric wall heaters in some of the rooms.
DeleteYeah! I love a work in process! It looks like you'll be able to do some pretty cool stuff. :0)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what all you end up doing! What a cool looking house! I'm excited for you guys!!!!
